THE BIGGEST (AND KINDEST) SKIN CARE TRENDS FOR 2017

All you need to know for 2017 skin goals

We’ve looked into the hottest new skin care must-try techniques, skin superfoods and award-winning products to compile our favourite kind and natural skin care trends for 2017 skin goals…and yes kind and chemical-free cleansing definitely does feature.

PROBIOTICS FOR THE SKIN…

Working probiotics into your skin care regime could become an essential part of your routine in 2017. The amazing healing powers of our gut bacteria are well known, and the link between probiotics - a happy gut - and gorgeously glowing skin has been made. This link is now set to see probiotics making their way into facial creams, moisturisers and cleansers. Benefits are said to include reducing acne-causing bacteria and alleviating inflammation.

NEW SKIN SUPERFOODS…

As the beauty and skin care industry focus on the natural, naturally, new superfoods for the skin are being discovered! Being named the next big thing, algae is said to have lots of skin-loving benefits from improving the skin’s moisture retention to promoting better skin elasticity, we’re sure to see algae play a major role in cosmetic production1. Moringa is another skin care superfood to keep your eyes out for. Moringa is a tree that originates from India and its leaves are said to be abundant in minerals and essential amino acids. Rich in antioxidants and vitamins A, E B2 and B3 as well as zinc, moringa promotes healthy, radiant skin.

FACE BRUSHING…

Body brushing has been around for a while, and it turns out there’s one pretty important area of the body we’ve been forgetting to brush all this time…our face. The skin on the face is far more delicate, but your complexion can too see benefits from brushing, including improving circulation, assisting with lymphatic drainage and improving your skin tone. Body brushes would be far too harsh (and large), it’s recommended you opt for a natural fibre and only brush 1-2 times a week on dry, clean skin, using long (soft) strokes.

RAW HONEY…

Honey falls within our skin’s natural PH level and has known antibacterial properties which means it’s great for assisting with acne prevention. It is also super moisturising and soothing and full of antioxidants that reduce free radicals and therefore help slow the ageing process. With so many benefits, it’s no real surprise we’re going to see honey being touted as the skin-care ingredient for the masses in 2017. Raw honey face masks, honey spot treatments and honey baths should be ones to try during the cooler months.

REDEFINING SKIN CARE ROUTINES…

It’s time to give our skin a break, 2017 sees our cleansing habits get a much-needed overhaul. Lab produced ingredients are out, and it’s all about taking skin care back to basics. We’re talking about redefining skin care routines, considering the nature and origin of the ingredients we use on our skin, and their effect on the environment. Skin care should be simple, kind and natural…but it should also work. Cosmopolitan Australia Beauty Award Winner for makeup removal, Santé by ENJO Makeup Removers allow you to remove makeup and cleanse the skin harnessing nothing but the skin-loving properties of water.

HYDRATING – MORE WAYS ARE BETTER THAN ONE…

We all know that water is a skin care saviour in itself, but 2017 will see us infusing different ingredients to maximise the benefit. Rose water has been an ingredient used as a soothing agent in beauty products for years, and now rose-infused water is set to hydrate skin from the inside out. Activated-charcoal water is another 2017 trend to try, activated charcoal acts as a magnet that naturally attracts and absorbs chemicals in your water for a purer, fresher, tall glass of water your skin will thank you for.

CURE ALL COFFEE…

Already well on board with the turmeric latte trend, 2017 sees the coffee collective broaden their flavour horizons even further by incorporating wholesome health foods like mushrooms. Mushrooms have immune-enhancing properties that are being dried, extracted and blended with warming spices and other health-boosting ingredients like coconut oil and a nutty-based milk to produce a nourishing wellness elixir. The anti-inflammatory properties are said to help reduce inflammation and enhance the appearance of the skin.
