Our brand ambassador on her life, loves and beautiful skin
A natural beauty, talented actor and passionate environmentalist, Australia’s very own Isabel Lucas isn’t your average Hollywood star. With a love for the ocean and all its creatures, mother nature and tea(!) Isabel goes against the grain, carving-out a pure and minimalist lifestyle amidst the city sprawl of Los Angeles.
The free-spirited star was discovered by her agent on a family holiday in Queensland, and following a spell on the iconic, Hollywood-gateway Aussie soap, Home and Away, Isabel’s magnetic on-screen presence saw her take the inevitable move to the big city. Since then she’s starred in the blockbuster ‘Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen’, Russel Crowe’s ‘The Water Diviner’ and opposite Christian Bale and Cate Blanchett in ‘Knight of Cups’ to name but a few.

Despite her success on the silver screen and a busy work schedule, Isabel’s passion for the environment and protecting the world’s oceans plays an important part in her day-to-day life. Relishing the opportunity to take advantage of her profile, environmental activism has seen her hit the headlines on more than one occasion. Most notably when she risked international arrest as part of a flotilla protesting against the annual mass-killing of dolphins in Japan.
Notorious for choosing her collaborations carefully and avoiding the spotlight, her interest in incorporating sustainable, earth-loving choices into her daily routine makes her the natural fit for Santé by ENJO’s reusable skin care range.
Back to the bay on location in the beautiful Palm Beach for the Santé by ENJO photoshoot, we took the opportunity (between shots) to chat with Isabel about her life, career, things she loves and beautiful skin!
You’re renowned for your love for the environment, how did this become your passion?
I grew up in a house that was environmentally conscious, my dad grew up on a farm and did biodynamic farming, so we would always talk about our footprint on the planet in our house, in a simple way. I feel really connected to beautiful places in Australia. Being introduced to the land in Kakadu through my best friend who is Indigenous, it made me understand how the Indigenous respect the land and see it as a mother because it gives us everything, our shelter, our food, our water. It also made me see the land as a teacher, so growing up with that influence has been impactful for me.
You seem to have a real affinity to the ocean in particular…
There are so many things that I love about the Ocean, my sister and I used to swim in it whenever we could. Whales and dolphins are my favourite animals, and anything you really love you naturally have an inclination to want to protect it and safeguard it. Which is why I always want to protect the Ocean. We’re so fortunate in Australia with so many beautiful beaches, nothing compares.
Santé believes in a beautiful you from the inside out, promoting lifestyle harmony and healthy living, what does healthy living mean to you?
Healthy living for me means having a balance of mind, body and soul. Physically taking care of your body, going for a swim in the ocean and balancing the mind such as meditation. I try and drink 2 litres of water each day to stay hydrated, I sometimes add essential oils as they have anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties. I also love herbal tea, green tea, all different teas. My favourite way to stay fit and healthy is to do my stretching in the morning, going for a walk or hike a few times a week. Doing some yoga or attending a Pilate’s class.
What does a typical ‘day in the life’ of Isabel Lucas look like?
A typical day in my life changes due to my schedule, but I wake up and have my green or any herbal tea, do my stretching and meditation. After that I go have breakfast, do some reading or script learning, I then attend either an acting class or an audition, I then like to go on a hike later in the day, have a little email session or do some more reading. It’s mostly work focused, but at the end of the day I will make dinner, I prefer to eat at home, and then I sometimes go and watch a DVD for movie research.
If you had the whole day to do as you wished what would we find you doing?
If I had the whole day to do as I wish I would take some time to do some journaling, and just resting. Relaxing and catching up on sleep is relevant at the moment!
Tell us about your skin care routine… and do you have any beauty tips?
My day-to-day skin care routine is pretty simple, I just wake up, splash my face with water, sometimes I add lavender oil to the water, and then I put on moisturiser and a sunscreen. I don’t usually wear makeup, but at the end of the day I use the Santé by ENJO Makeup Removers instead of using a cleanser or soap, which is amazing because I don’t have to put more chemicals down the drain which end up going into the ocean, so I just use the Santé fibres and put on some moisturiser for the night time, it’s really simple.
I love using aloe vera gel and rubbing it into the roots of my hair. I then put my hair in a top knot. I like it because it’s good for your hair and scalp and because it’s natural.
We know you endeavour to lead a minimalist lifestyle, is there one thing you just couldn’t live without?
One thing I couldn’t live without is tea…I’m pretty attached to it. Thinking about it, another thing I couldn’t live without is my journal, I write a lot. I literally have a treasure chest full of journals that I have written and kept since I was 10. It’s really cathartic for me to reflect and sift the gold out of a situation and experience.
What do you enjoy about being an actor and do you have a career highlight to date?
Finding ways to access your character through your own pain or own wounds, which can be really cathartic, really draws me to acting and my work. My career highlight to date is hard, it’s like saying what your favourite colour is. I’ve learnt a lot from different jobs and the people I have worked with. I recently shot a film with Shane Abbess and his barometer for truth is so honed, that there’s such pressure on set to really deliver your character in an honest way, and that’s always a highlight creatively. Another thing that’s been a highlight is being able to use acting as a platform to support projects and issues that I personally care about. I appreciate being able to highlight brands like Santé by ENJO and other environmentally sustainable projects that I am loving.
Finally, what is it about Santé you love the most?
I was really impressed when I received my Santé products, there’s no waste, even the bag it comes in is the laundry bag which is really cool. I love that there are no chemicals used, it’s so simple, you’re literally using water, it’s so pure and clean what could be better. But my favourite part about Santé is it’s environmentally friendly, that’s really important to me, I am really passionate about that. It’s awesome to be able to collaborate with a brand that cares about its footprint on the planet. For me, I love that about Santé.
